Shaping Our Future: A Vibrant Recap of Careers Week at Singlewell Primary School
Last week we had an exciting Careers Week that took place at Singlewell Primary School, where our pupils embarked on an inspiring journey exploring various professions and envisioning their future careers. Throughout the week, students had the opportunity to engage with professionals from diverse fields, gaining insights and sparking their imaginations about the endless possibilities that lie ahead.
Key Stage One and Two Talks:
One of the highlights of the week was the series of talks tailored specifically for our Key Stage One students. Here's a glimpse into the insightful sessions they participated in:
Hairdressers: Students had the chance to learn about the art of hairstyling from experienced professionals in the field. They discovered the creativity and skill involved in making people look and feel their best.
Air hostess: Our young learners explored the fascinating world of aviation as they heard from air hostesses who shared their experiences of working onboard aeroplanes and travelling around the globe.
Zookeepers: It was a wild adventure as students delved into the responsibilities of zookeepers, learning about caring for exotic animals and the importance of conservation efforts.
Vet: With a love for animals, students got an insight into the daily life of a veterinarian, understanding the care and compassion required to ensure the well-being of pets and other animals.
Careers Fair:
Another exciting event during Careers Week was the bustling Careers Fair, where students had the chance to interact with professionals representing various industries. Here are some of the booths and professions featured:
Building and Architecture: Students explored the world of construction and architecture, learning about designing structures and creating spaces where people live and work.
Hairdressing: The art of hairstyling was further showcased at the fair, with demonstrations and hands-on activities that allowed students to get creative with hair accessories and styling tools.
Nursing: Compassionate nurses shared their experiences and the importance of healthcare, inspiring students with stories of helping others and making a difference in people's lives.
Business Owners: Entrepreneurs and business owners shared their journeys of turning ideas into successful ventures, encouraging students to dream big and pursue their passions.
Doctor's Surgery Roles: From doctors to receptionists, students explored the diverse roles within a doctor's surgery, gaining an understanding of healthcare professions and the importance of teamwork in providing medical care.
Dress-Up Friday:
The week culminated in Dress as your future career day Friday, where students came dressed as their envisioned careers. It was a joyous sight to see our young learners adorned in various costumes, ranging from doctors and nurses to firefighters and astronauts. This activity sparked lively discussions about their aspirations and the importance of setting goals for the future.
In Class Activities:
Throughout the week, our students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in various activities designed to give them a taste of real-world professional experiences. From mock job applications to interviews, our classrooms buzzed with excitement and enthusiasm as students delved into the world of work.
One of the highlights of the week was the mock job application process. Students were tasked with creating job applications tailored to their dream careers. This exercise not only helped them understand the importance of presenting themselves effectively on paper but also encouraged them to reflect on their strengths, skills, and career aspirations.
Following the application process, students participated in mock interviews conducted by teachers and peers in our classrooms. This gave them the opportunity to practice articulating their experiences, answering common interview questions, and showcasing their potential to pretend prospective employers
As Careers Week came to a close, our school has been filled with inspiration and excitement for the future. Through engaging talks, interactive activities, and hands-on experiences, our amazing pupils gained valuable insights into the world of work and discovered the endless possibilities that await them. We look forward to nurturing their passions and supporting them as they pursue their dreams.
